Maintanance Tips

Do's
  • Always make sure that the tyres of your vehicle are filled with recommended air pressure. Both low and high pressure will hamper smooth driving and tyre life. Maintain correct tyre pressure to ensure better tyre life.
  • Check and maintain electrolyte level in the battery.
  • Daily maintenance is to be regularly performed especially on coolant level and engine oil level.
  • Ensure periodic servicing as per maintenance schedule.
  • For any adjustments or repairs please contact or go to Tata Motors dealership and authorised service stations only.
  • Use only recommended oils and lubricants. Check and replace oil in engine, gear box, rear axles and brake master cylinder periodically as per schedule.
  • 7In case of replacements, use only Tata Motors genuine spare parts.
  • 8Disconnect all alternator terminals while carrying out any welding on the vehicle.
  • Observe correct polarity while connecting alternator to battery.
  • Apply petroleum jelly on battery terminals.
  • Always use recommended antifreeze agents in cooling system to avoid deterioration of engine components due to corrosion. After filling coolant, fit radiator cap firmly to keep cooling system pressurised.
  • Always fit genuine radiator cap for pressurised cooling system.
  • In case of air lock in the fuel system, the bleeding should be done on the high pressure side of the fuel filter, and drain manifold and high pressure lines. Ensure that lift pump operation is satisfactory and proper fuel delivery takes place while bleeding out the air.
  • Always get our genuine and approved parts fitted on your vehicle by our trained mechanics using special tools at our authorised workshops.
Dont's
  • Do not keep the engine at full throttle during engine cranking. Keep the engine idling till the oil pressure builds up.
  • Don't allow the engine to be idle for long periods.
  • Don't come down the gradient in top gear. Always change into a lower gear.
  • Don't run the vehicle without a battery in its electrical circuit, as the life of alternator will be reduced.
  • Do not mask head lamp lens (top 1/3 or top 1/2 portions) with black paint. If done, this will reduce head lamp light intensity.
  • Don't use any other than approved brands/grades of fuels and lubricants.
  • Don't tamper with any adjustment made by Tata Motors dealerships and workshops.
  • Don't try to repair any part of the engine when it is running.
  • Don't attempt to start the engine unless the fault detected is rectified.
  • Do not overfill engine oil in sump. This may cause engine smoking and high engine oil consumption.
  • Do not clean exposed painted surface or wind screen with petroleum products, such as diesel, kerosene and petrol.
  • Don't fit bigger size tyres. Do not over or under inflate tyres. This reduces tyre life.
  • Do not flash the alternator leads to check for current flow.
  • Don't mix two brands of lubricants.
  • Don't open the radiator cap when engine is hot.
Driving Tips
  • While driving the vehicle, always use seat belt for your safety. Same is applicable for all passengers.
  • Avoid cranking of engine for more than 30 seconds. A gap of 2 minutes should be observed between successive attempts.
  • Don't start the vehicle by pushing it.
  • Always start moving the vehicle in first gear.
  • Don't adjust the seat belt while driving.
  • Always keep the vehicle in neutral gear while engaging and disengaging the reverse gear.
  • On bad surfaces reduce your driving speed and drive cautiously.
  • While travelling on inclines, change into a lower gear to get the required pick-up.
  • While going down the slopes, don't proceed in the neutral gear. You may reduce the speed by releasing the accelerator. Make the deceleration easier by using the brakes, but don't apply brakes for too long to avoid dangerous overheating, which in turn reduces efficiency of the brakes. Change to a lower gear, to increase the engine braking effects.
  • Change to a lower gear while turning, slowing down and before applying the brakes on wet roads.
  • Before taking a curve, gently release the accelerator and if required, change into a lower gear.
  • To get rapid pickup while overtaking, engage a lower gear in order to have the necessary power at once.
  • Don't press the accelerator when clutch is pressed down. This drastically reduces the clutch life.
  • Don't jam the brakes on wet surfaces, on un-metallic or slippery roads.
  • Do not use clutch pedal as a foot rest when driving. This will cause premature clutch lining wear.
  • Don't coast vehicle i.e. drive with the engine switched off. This is dangerous and affects the life of gear box.
  • Don't use mobile phone while driving for safety of yourself and other road users.
  • Always park the vehicle with the parking brakes 'ON'.
  • Don't use kerosene as a fuel, it reduces engine life and fuel pump life.
